Lesley
Fountain was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. Art has always played
an important role in her life, and early experiments with finger
paints and papier mache led to painting on silk, cotton, canvas,
wood, ceramics and paper. She began exhibiting and selling her work
while living in Britain in the 1980s. After returning to Canada in
the 1990s she continued painting and began creating large papier
mache sculptures and mixed media artwork. She taught children and
adults through continuing education classes in community centres, as
well as workshops in her home studio.
In
1997 Lesley moved to California and discovered the limitless creative
power of art software. She created her artwork
using Corel Painter software and a pressure- sensitive drawing
tablet.
Vibrant
colours and a spontaneous, contemporary style characterize Lesley's
work. Recently she has become enamoured with mixed media again –
she enjoys working with the combination of hidden and exposed, images
and text, and densely layered textures and colours. Her acrylic on canvas paintings are comprised of many layers of paint and texture, her mixed media banners - created on hardware store roofing paper - feature acrylic
paints, shimmering metallics, oil pastels, collage elements, and
embellishments of braid, charms, milagros, tassels, sequins, and
found objects.
Lesley
returned home to Canada in 2003, and now lives in Mill Bay on
Vancouver Island. In 2012 she wrote and published the book The Passionate
Life – Creativity, Connection, and Community, which profiles
twenty-two Cowichan Valley women passionately pursuing the lives of
their dreams. In 2012 she finished The Passionate Life II which tells the stories of 15 more women. She is co-owner of Tangerine Dream Gallery and Studio.
Lesley
has exhibited her work in the UK, the US and Canada. She currently exhibits at Merridale Ciderworks in Cobble Hill, BC, Unsworth Winery in Cobble Hill, BC, and Tangerine Dream Gallery and Studio in Cowichan Bay, BC.

PIPI TUSTIAN
Pipi Tustian has made her home in the Cowichan Valley for over 20 years. Her original pieces of "functional art" include banners, tablecloths, table runners, napkins, curtains, pillows and chair cushions, and are created in a variety of colour themes that change with the seasons.
Much of Pipi's nurturing strength comes from the women in her life, while a lighthearted sense of humor comes directly from the men! Growing up she was surrounded by family love, humor, music, and European slow food, which was always served with rustic casual flair that made you want to sit for hours.
Pipi describes her hand-painted washable linen as "Original Art for Everyday Living." Each fabric is pre-washed to insure durability and colour fastness. Once sewn, the blank canvas comes to life with a hand painted acrylic palette inspired by the changing light each day brings. The pieces are then heat set, which renders them completely washable for use indoors or out. In addition to hand painted textiles, Pipi creates beautiful and vibrant paintings on canvas and furniture.
Pipi's work can be found at Embellish Home Decor in Duncan, BC, Eclectic Avenue in Victoria, BC, Damali Lavender Farm in Cobble Hill, BC, and Tangerine Dream Gallery and Studio, in Cowichan Bay, BC. She is co-owner of Tangerine Dream Gallery and Studio, and in addition to running the gallery and working in the studio space offers a wide variety of classes and workshops in fabric and furniture painting.
