Featured Artist of the Week - Henk Scholten

"There is so much to love about wood. It grows around us. Trees keep our world in balance. The feel, the smell, the look of wood makes it a pleasure with which to work. Knowing that it is constantly being replaced allows us to take it, use it and feel good about it. It is part of the cycle of life here on this planet we call home."

Most of Henk’s furniture is built using solid, kiln dried pine/spruce planking. Some furniture incorporates other pieces of wood. The colors are layers of water based paints and the finish is either hand rubbed wax or urethane.

The inspiration and design of the Henk’s furniture is drawn from his world travels. One of Henk's passions is seeing and experiencing the day to day lives of people around the globe. In his work a person might see echos of a Thai temple bench, a Turkish bazaar table or a stool from a farm in the Alps. The furniture is functional, sturdy, yet designed with pleasing lines and finished to create a warm, friendly feeling of belonging.

We have several pieces of Henk's gorgeous furniture in our gallery - come and take a look!
