Paintings For Food - Help the Cowichan Food Bank by Bidding on Some Great Art

Inspired by Fatima da Silva of Bistro 161's Flash Feed Mob events this summer, which raised much needed funds for the Cowichan Valley Food Bank, we decided to come up with an event suited to our particular talents - a "Paint In." Last Saturday we teamed up with fellow artist and founder of Inspire! Shawnigan Cheryl Bakke Martin and performed a "musical paintings" event for 8 hours in the studio.

Every time the genre of music on our ipod changed we would switch canvases. Each canvas was worked on by each artist about 10 times, which makes for a fascinating collaboration, considering we each have our own unique style and colour preferences.

Visitors to the gallery were fascinated, and many made cash donations on the spot.

Cheryl's husband, filmmaker Daniel Martin, worked his magic and created a mini-documentary of the event.

This was what the paintings looked like after 8 hours of painting. The small one, entitled "Love in the Valley," was completed.

"Love In the Valley" - 24" x 24" (Valued at $800.00)

Lesley was back at it the next day, putting the finishing touches on the other two paintings. Photographer Tracy Robinson of Thru Her Eyes Photography came in to capture "the day after."

This one is entitled "Collaboration", and is 30" x 40" on an extra deep 2" canvas
(Valued at 1200.00)

This one is entitled "Thinking of You," and is 30" x 40" on an extra deep 2" canvas
(Valued at $1200.00)

The paintings are now all up for auction until August 15th at 8 pm. You can place your bids on facebook  - ( click here to be taken to the auction) or email us or come in to the gallery (we are open Tuesday through Sunday, 11-4 pm) to place your bid or make a cash donation to the food bank. Every little bit helps! Get an awesome piece of art with a fun story and help those in need at the same time - Win win win!
